Es solo Rock n´ roll

 Posiblemente para muchos la palabra rock es sinónimo de drogas, alcohol, sexo y todos los excesos imaginables, pero para otros es símbolo de arte y creatividad, ya que el rock esta presente en obras cinematográficas y teatrales, unas buenas otras no tanto también esta presente en libros, esculturas y trabajos fotográficos, en fin casi en todas por no decir en todas las expresiones artísticas y que decir de la moda, basta mencionar a Carnaby Street en Londres, esta famosa calle que tuvo un gran auge en la década de los sesentas ya que sus tiendas eran visitadas por los rockstars del momento como David Bowie, Mick Jagger y Marc Bolan entre otros.

Un Rebelde sin Causa, Jesucristo Superestrella y la Pared

 

En cintas como "El Salvaje" con Marlon Brandon y "Rebelde sin Causa" con James Dean el rock empezaba a coquetear con las cámaras, pero fue hasta 1956 cuando el rock entró de lleno a la  industria del cine, con filmes como "Love me Tender" y "Jailhouse Rock" y la cuestionable actuación de Elvis Presley.

En los sesentas aparecen las películas "A Hard Day´s Nigth", "Help", y "Viaje Mágico y Misterioso" de los Beatles, y las rock-opera "SF Sorrow" de los Pretty Things y "Tommy" de the Who, "Quadrofenia" la obra se presenta en 1973 y la película en 1979 en la cual actúa Sting como Ice. En 1972 Elton John contribuyó con la banda sonora para la película del mismo nombre: la inolvidable y tierna "Amigos", en 1970 aparece la rock-opera "Jesucristo Superestrella", la lista es extensa he aquí otras obras :1970 the Kinks "Lola vs. Power Man and the Moneygoround", 1972 David Bowie "The Rice and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars", 1974 Queen "Queen", 1974 Genesis "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway"

En 1982 llega a la pantalla una obra maestra que, si alguien no la ha visto al menos ha oído hablar de ella: "The Wall" basada en el álbum del mismo nombre de Pink Floyd, y protagonizada por Bob Geldof líder y vocalista de los Boomtown Rats, anteriormente Pink Floyd ya había musicalizado los filmes "Zabriskie Point", "La Vallé" y "More"

Debido a la fuerza que tiene el rock muchos directores siguen sonorizando sus obras con temas de ayer y hoy, como "Apocalipsis Now" , "Pulp Fiction" y "Across to Universe"... a la pantalla se ha llevado la vida o parte de ella de algunas figuras del rock, con trabajos como "Rock Toda la Noche", "La Bamba", "Grandes Bolas de Fuego", "La Rosa", "Doors", "Cid y Nancy", "Yo no Estoy Aquí" por mencionar solo algunos

De manera mas directa, algunos inquietos rockanroleros han incursionado en la pantalla grande, la lista también seria extensa he aquí algunos títulos: John Lennon actuó en "Como gané la Guerra", Ringo Star en "El Cavernicola", Paul McCartney en "Llevale mis Saludos a la Calle Broad", David Bowie con una veintena de filmes de los que sobresalen "El Hombre que Cayó a la Tierra", El Ansia" y "El Laberinto", Bob Dylan en "Pat Garrett y Billy the Kid", Mick Jagger en "Performance", Roger Daltrey en "Liztomania" y Sting en "Dunas".      www.rockultos.blogspot.com

Bangla Desh, Avandaro y el locutor olvidado

El rock también se ha abanderado en pro de los  damnificados que han dejado las guerras y desastres naturales. En 1971 Ravi Shankar, maestro y amigo de George Harrison, acudió a éste para ver de que manera podrian ayudar a su país, ya que  las inundaciones lo habían devastado, y su pueblo estaba siendo aniquilado a causa  del hambre y las epidemias; y así fué como el primero de agosto de 1971 se llevó a cabo el primer concierto con fines benéficos: el memorable Concierto Para Bangla Desh, con las actuaciones de George Harrison, Ravi Shancar, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Ringo Star, Billy Preston, Klaus Vorman, Leon Russel y Bad Finger.

Anteriormente  ya se habían celebrado los conciertos de Woodstok, la Isla de Wight y Monterey Pop.
El 11 de septiembre de 1971 se celebró en México el satanizado y atacado por  prensa y gobierno: el mítico Festival de Rock y Ruedas de Avandaro; en este Woodstok mexicano, como así se le llamó se escenifico la rock-opera Tommy, además se presentaron los grupos que en aquella época estaban buscando un espacio, la mayoría venían del norte pero también  había de Jalisco y el D.F., se presentaron: Los Dug Dug´s, Epílogo, La División del Norte, Tequila, Peace and Love, El Ritual, Los Yaky, Bandido, Tinta Blanca, El Amor, Three Souls in my Mind, La Ley de Herodes, Soul Masters, Sociedad Anonima, Zafiro, Fachada de Piedra, Micky Salas y Maricela. Cuando tocó el turno a Peace and Love, estos lidereados por Ricardo Ochoa y acompañados por docientas mil gargantas empezaron a gritar la consigna: "¡ Tenemos el poder , tenemos el poder...chingue a su madre el que no cante! inmediatamente la Secretaría de Gobernación ordenó se cortara la transmisión del festival; si el rock siempre fue reprimido, a partir de Avandaro fue atacado con más saña por las autoridades, la prensa y la mal informada sociedad, pero entre más se le reprimía, este tomaba más fuerza, ya no se podía detener, a partir de Avandaro ni el rock ni los que tuvieron la  fortuna de asistir a este festival serian los mismos, Avandaro fue el parte aguas del rock nacional hoy por hoy al referirnos al rock nacional se toma como referencia este festival "antes o después de Avandaro". De este concierto se ha dicho  de todo, que fue una gran hermandad la que asistió, que compartían la comida, el alcohol, que se rolaban el toque, y así fue, también se recuerda a la gran heroína : la famosa encuerada de Avandaro, una y otra vez se refieren a Javier Batiz como el gran ausente, y es justo mencionarlo, así como también es justo mencionar  que si no asistió fue porque quería todo el presupuesto que se había asignado para el festival por medio de Mario Molina y éste lo administró inteligentemente, Batiz se arrepintió e intentó llegar al festival pero no lo logró, quedó atrapado en el trafico que originó el arribo de tanta gente, pero muy pocos recuerdan o mencionan que Avandaro tuvo un mártir, un héroe o un perdedor, como le quieran llamar: el locutor de radio Juventud Félix Ruano, que fue despedido por hacer su trabajo y seria justo agradecer su labor, así como reconocer que la juventud de aquel entonces, el rock y las autoridades están en deuda con el, en lo que a mi concierne: ¡gracias Sr. Ruano, dondequiera que usted se encuentre!
Del festival de Avandaro hay muy poco, casi nada de material de audio y filmografico, ya que los videotapes que grabó Telesistema Mexicano fueron confiscados, y hasta el día de hoy nadie sabe donde quedaron, tal vez antes que aparezca dicho material primero se den a conocer los nombres de los conspiradores que ordenaron los  asesinatos de John F. Kennedy ó Colosio, lo cual ya no me tocara verlo.

El tallador de ropa, el mellotron y el rayo laser: evolución tecnologica

Cada banda, cada interprete le ha agregado al rock un estilo propio y, dependiendo el origen de dichas bandas le han incorporado un sinfín de instrumentos propios de sus países además de los artefactos más inverosímiles y raros para enriquecerlo, por ejemplo: en The Summertime Mongo Jerry utilizó un botellón  al cual le soplaban como una quena, Black Oak Arkansas convirtió un tallador de ropa en una especie de güiro en Cuando la electricidad llegó a Arkansas, los Beatles o George Martin como lo quieran ver, introdujeron al rock instrumentos de cuerda y metales, además experimentaron con sonidos de cintas tocadas al revés, también utilizaron el mellotron y el sintetizador Moog en Campos de Fresa por Siempre, en el  Martillo de Plata de Maxwell utilizaron un martillo y un yunque, para el Submarino Amarillo los efectos los hicieron utilizando un balde con agua, no se porque, pero se dice que el grupo más odiado  por la critica eran Emerson Lake & Palmer, la base de todas sus obras era el sintetizador  Moog, que era tocado con frenesí por Keith Emerson, dandole al trío un sonido inconfundible, aquí en México, Armando Nava de los Dug Dug´s utilizaba y sigue haciéndolo, la flauta transversal cosa que ya habían hecho Ian Anderson de Jethro Tull y los Beatles en el Tonto de la Colina, esto no lo digo para restarle mérito al sr. Nava, sino al contrario, Nahuatl agregó el arpa a su "Rock Jarocho" dándole un sonido y ritmo muy alegres, por su parte Nuevo México con la criticada "Cerámica" incorporó instrumentos de mariachi  dándole  un sabor muy mexicano,  por su parte Jorge Reyes (q.p.d.),  integrante junto con Carlos Mata de Nuevo México y fundador de Chaac Mool, agregó a sus composiciones instrumentos prehispanicos, lo que le dio reconocimiento internacional poniéndolo a la altura de los mejores grupos de rock progresivo como Genesis, King Crimson ó Jethro Tull, por su parte Pink Floyd, que empezó como una banda de blues psicodelico, se dedicó a la investigación e introducción de nuevos sonidos, convirtiéndose en una innovadora maquina de hacer música,  desplegando en cada concierto lo ultimo en tecnología láser, robótica y pirotecnia, logrando así en cada uno de ellos un alucinante e increíble espectáculo audiovisual.

Del cover y el hoyo funcky a nuestros días

En nuestro país existieron tantos grupos que contribuyeron con su granito de arena que sin ellos nuestro rock nacional no seria el mismo, bandas como Ataúd Blindado, Peron Eléctrico, México 13, Hangar Ambulante, Javier y Baby Batíz, Pájaro Alberto, Ginebra Fría y tantos que escapan de mi oxidada memoria, pero existieron y también fueron proscritos después de Avandaro, y obligados a refugiarse en el exilio de los hoyos fonky. De igual manera un reconocimiento a la generación anterior, que por lo regular tocaban covers y en ocasiones mejoraban los temas originales, aunque también tocaban temas propios, grupos como Los Locos del Ritmo, Los Hooligans, Los Teen Tops, Los Rebeldes del Rock, Los Apson, los Hermanos Carrión y tantos etcéteras...ojalá las bandas de hoy como El Aragan, Tex Tex, Lira n´ Roll, el mismo Tri y todos los que están en activo reconozcan la labor de estas dos generaciones de pioneros que cimentaron las bases para que las nuevas generaciones sigan creando sin contratiempos un rock nacional solido y de calidad, y algún día les brindasen un tributo, creo que  lo merecen. La grandeza esta en la humildad.

Un Viajero en el Tiempo por Siempre Joven


El rock si no ha salvado a otros países de la quiebra , al menos al reino unido si, si no pregunten a la reina Isabel, y sera por sus raíces que provienen del dolor y la esclavitud el rock también es sinónimo de libertad ya que está contra las guerras, injusticias, racismo y la sumisión del hombre por el hombre, sus diferentes ramificaciones abarcan todos los ritmos y géneros, desde el rock más clásico y puro hasta lo mas extravagante y espeluznante, es alegre y triste, es energía y tranquílidad, el rock calma y motiva, es cadencia y frenesí que te envuelve en sus deliciosas notas, reclama y denuncia pero también engrandese.

A más de cincuenta años de su nacimiento el rock se conserva joven y fresco.

Ustedes y yo envejeceremos y moriremos...pero el rock ahí estará por siempre para las generaciones venideras.

El rock esta en constante movimiento y evolución, pero sin perder su esencia

De las bandas de hoy, tal vez algunas logren llegar a ser clásicas otras no, aún así serán recordadas con nostalgia por los de su generación, pero eso no lo decidimos ni ustedes ni yo, solo Dios, el tiempo y la historia, y tal vez dentro de unos años alguien que aún no nace estará frente a un teclado escribiendo sobre lo maravilloso que es el rock n´roll.

La verdad: cuestión de perspectiva

Solo soy un aficionado a la música, en especial al rock y lo que escribo es solo mi punto de vista, puedo y tengo derecho a equivocarme, y ustedes a diferir y refutar; entre otras cosas que he aprendido con el paso de los años, es conocer mis limitaciones y debilidades, y pudiera ser que la pasión que siento por el rock n´roll me haga perder objetividad, e inclinar la balanza hacia donde mas convenga; el conocimiento y el saber es retroalimentación y cualesquier diferencia, desacuerdo o apreciación es bienvenida. Desde mi punto de vista , la verdad es cuestión de perspectiva, por ejemplo si asisto a un concierto de los Rolling Stones y estoy en un asiento barato o sea en las gradas y les platico que Jagger vestía una gabardina roja y corría sin jadear y uno de ustedes se sentó en un asiento junto al escenario y dice que Jagger traía una gabardina roja con rayas negras y que al correr ya la edad le hacia respirar con dificultad, ¿quien dice la verdad?. Aún así nadie tiene la verdad absoluta, ésta se encuentra por ahí, en un lugar entre las estrellas...en el infinito o... tal vez frente a nosotros pero no queremos, o no podemos, o no nos es permitido conocerla.

En lo que esperamos esa verdad absoluta disfrutemos de esto que inició Bill Haley, y continuaron Chuk, Buddy Holly, Elvis, The Beatles, Rolling, Kinks, Deep Purple, King Crimson Led Zeppelin, Janis Hendrix, Morrison .... y ya sea rockabilly, pop, progresivo, hard, heavy, metal, speed, grounch.... como dijeran los Rolling Stones en los incipientes setentas en su disco homónimo: Es solo Rock n´roll... pero me gusta.
